Accused in the cash-for- bail case, historysheeter P. Yadagiri Rao has confessed that the deal struck between him and jailed mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy’s brother was for Rs 20 crore.
Rao had mediated between Janardhan Reddy’s brother Mr Somasekhara Reddy and another relative, Mr Dasaratha Ram Reddy. In his confession to the CBI following his arrest, Yadagiri Rao stated that he knew a few advocates and police officers and had previously brokered the bail of DSP-ranked officer Sarveshwar Reddy who was arrested by the ACB. In that case bail was secured by paying Rs 10 lakh to suspended judge Pattabhi Rama Rao through T.V. Chalapathi Rao. In the Gali Janardhan Reddy case, Rao confessed that he met Somasekhara Reddy and Dasaratha Ram Reddy through junior advocate Aditya. The deal was struck in a senior advocate’s office wherein it was finalised that Rs 5 crore would be paid to him and Pattabhi Rama Rao. After meeting Chalapathi Rao, Yadagiri had informed Gali’s relatives that Pattabhi Rao would be managed by Chalapathi Rao. He also alleged that the junior advocate had received Rs 1 crore.
Mr Somasekhara Reddy accepted the deal, but wanted an assurance that Pattabhi Rao agreed to grant bail. To assure them, Pattabhi’s son, Ravi Chandra was brought to Masab Tank, but he did not meet Gali’s relatives. After the bail was granted, Somasekhara paid Rs 9.5 crore and said the balance would be given after the CBI’s petition challenging the bail was dismissed in the High Court.
