Vegetable prices in thewholesale markets across the city have soared since last fortnight burning a hole in the pocket of the average consumer. Low produce due to scorching summer and the marriage season in full swing are the key reasons for the price hike.Rythu Bazaar officials said that some vegetable prices have increased due to poor supply.
The price of french beans reached a season high of Rs 100 per kg. The prevailing price of tomatoes is Rs 30 per kg in Mir Alam Mandi, three times its rate of Rs 10 per kg last week. Potatoes climbed from Rs 10 two weeks ago to Rs 16 on Wednesday. The price of cabbage rose from Rs 13 last week to Rs 20.
