2 youths drown in Yeleru canal

Two youths drowned in Yeleru canal near V Kothur village under Tuni rural police station limits today.

The bodies were fished out a little later by the villagers. Police who registered a case said that both the deceased hailed from Kothakota village in neighbouring Visakhapatnam district and were here on a pilgrimage to Goddess Thalupulamma at the Lova temple.

Debt ridden farmer commits suicide

Damage of crop due to drought conditions forced a farmer to commit suicide at Appapuram village in Nadendla mandlam of the district today. Police said the deceased K Srinivas (40) committed suicide by consuming pesticide. He had cultivated chili and cotton cop. But he got very less yields due to damage of crop following drought like weather conditions.

He had borrowed Rs six lakh and invested in the crop. But as he was unable to bear the harassment by money lenders, he took the extreme step, police added

Death toll in fire cracker mishap rises to 6.

The death toll in the fire- cracker manufacturing unit fire mishap which took place at Undrajavaram village on April last, has risen to six, as one more victim died in hospital today. Police said one of the victims, M Krishna Bhagavan (40), died while being treated in a private hospital in Tanuku town. Three more victims, who had sustained serious burn injuries in the crackers explosion, were being treated and their condition was said to be very critical. Meanwhile, the owners of the Vijaya Lakhsmi fire works, in which major fire broke out following an explosion, killing two persons instantaneously, M Satyanarayana, surrendered before police yesterday. The police registered cases under Section 304 (A), 338, and 286 and produced him before court.
