The Telugu film industry plans to stage a protest on January 7 to put pressure on the central government to abolish the service tax levied on the film industry.
With the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce taking the initiative on the issue, protests will be staged in Bangalore, Chennai and other cities.
AP Film Chamber of Commerce president Tammareddy Bharadwaja said that the protest will be staged for two hours, from 8 am to 10 am, near the film chamber office at Filmnagar in the city.
“The film industry is burdened by several taxes. Service tax which is collected at 12.36% from artistes and technicians apart from producers is an issue. We want the service tax to be abolished and we will make another representation to the government on it,” Bharadwaja said.
