Task force busts cricket betting, 3 held

The East Zone Task Force team arrested three persons indulged in cricket betting here last night. In a release, police today said the task force team have apprehended three cricket betting organisers during the special drive against the cricket betting organizers of illegal Gambling during the IPL Matches -2012 in the city. The betting organisers including Karan Sharma (23), Md Lateef (28) and Md Ashfaq(28), who gathered in a private Lodge located at Troop Bazar in the city along with huge quantity of net cash with an intention to distribute the collected cricket betting amount of May 23, 2012 Pertains to Indian Premier League (IPL) Match, 2012 in between Mumbai Indians Vs Chennai Super Kings teams played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, the release said. Besides seizing of over Rs 9.93 lakh, the team also seized five cell phones, seven betting chits and other incriminating material from their possession. Twenty three-year-old Sharma, the main bookey, hatched a plan to earn easy money by accepting cricket betting amount in an organizing manner directly and indirectly over cell phones from the known and unknown punters in the Hyderabad.

To execute his plan, he engaged two sub-agents –Md Lateef and Md Ashfaq on commission basis by collecting cricket betting amount from the known punters and close friends directly and indirectly, the release added.
