The State Government today directed the concerned Districts’ Collectors to utilise the seized sand for the government schemes. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Minister for Mines and Geology Galla Aruna Kumari at the State Secretariat here. Later, in a release, the minister said the District Collectors have been authorised to utilise the seized sand. She said 29 locations in patta land have been granted permission for sand mining and they need not take any environmental clearances. The mining will be done by the state Mining Development Corporation and would provide employment to nearly seven lakh people, she said. She also said 31 places in submergence areas have been identified where the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) would mine nearly 45 lakh cubic metres of sand and this would give employment to nearly 14 lakh people, she said.
The government would conduct auction for sand mines through district sand committee only after received clearances from the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority Forests of Science and Technology Department, she added.
