No doubt, item songs are a rage and are considered as the X-Factor in films. Filmmakers presume that these hip-shakers are like an insurance policy, guaranteeing the film’s success. However, there’s a select group of directors in Tollywood who refuse to have such ‘masala numbers’ in their films. Ask Trivikram Srinivas about filming a fruity item number, and the director quips that he would never have such items in his flicks.
Director Meher Ramesh too has several reservations when it comes to roping in a dhak dhak girl for a sensuous number. Director Karunakaran, a specialist in making romantic flicks, is also against the idea of having an item song in his movie and adds that his upcoming film ‘Endukante Premanta’ doesn’t feature one. Filmmaker “Bommarillu” Bhaskar feels that no matter how much masala you add to the song, it’s the music that connects with the audience. But is a contemporary Telugu film complete without a whip whack item number? Well, going by these hit numbers’ popularity, one can safely conclude, that spicy songs are here to stay.
