SMS led to rumours over Jagan’s arrest

An SMS from an unknown source has led to the midnight speculations in the media over the arrest of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the hungama at his residence early on Sunday.

The SMS generated at around 11.30 pm on Saturday night, after Jagan suddenly cancelled his visit to Nellore by Simhapuri Express to participate in the campaign for an unknown reason.

The message was circulated fast among the YSR Congress party activists. It read that “Jagan anna might get arrested at any time. Let us all protest this and stop him from being arrested.”

By early in the morning, the Lotus Pond area of Jubilee Hills was flooded with hundreds of Jagan’s supporters. The police had to enter the scene and lock the gates so as to avoid gate-crashing by party workers. It was only after Jagan came out and greeted them that the hungama subsided.

By the way, who might have spread the rumours through SMS? While Jagan’s followers say it was the yellow media which had done it to create panic among the people, another section says it was the handiwork of Jagan’s camp itself to show that there would be massive unrest in the state if Jagan is really arrested.
