Hardly on the heels of the TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s controversial dharna protesting against the PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayana’s involvement in the liquor scam, he received a big blow in Vizianagaram district with party senior leader and district strong man Gadde Babu Rao announcing his decision to quit the TDP.
Babu Rao made this announcement at a meeting of party workers and his supporters in the Cheepurupalli constituency. Reports are agog that he might shortly join the YSR Congress. If that happens, it would help strengthening that party further.
Babu Rao was an important leader of the TDP. He has also worked as the government whip during the TDP rule. However, since quite some time, he has been unhappy with the style of functioning of the party supremo Chandrababu Naidu and has announced his resignation twice earlier. He has, however, continued in the party, not insisting on his resignation.
Babu Rao has unsuccessfully contested against Botsa Satyanarayana in 2009 Assembly elections from Cheepurupalli constituency. He has abstained from Naidu’s dharna at the Vizianagaram collectorate on Monday. Babu Rao is a strong leader in the district and observers feel that with his exit, TDP would be further weakened. It is learnt that several TDP leaders are ready to leave the party along with Babu Rao.
