Sevas in temples hit as archakas on strike

Arjitha Sevas in most of the temples, mainly in Telangana region, were stalled following the strike by priests across the state today demanding uniformsalaries for all archakas. Though State Endowments Minister C Ramachandraiah stated that uniform salaries for archakas was not possible as there was variation in payment of salaries from temple to temple depending on the income of those temples, priests joined in the strike by stalling the daily ritutals and also other services in the temples mostly in Telangana region. Talking to mediapersons, TDS President Bhanu Murthy and Secretary P Mallikarujun said the Endowments Act was amended in 2007 on paying uniform salaries to all archakas, but was not being implemented. They said they will stage a dharna near the Endowments Office on August 10, lay seige to the Endowment Commissioner’s Office on August 11 and next day, would organise a ‘ Chalo Hyderabad’ to press their demands. As many as 36,000 employees were working in 18,000 temples in Telangana region.
