Italian merchant traveller Marco polo (Gary Tantony) narrates about Kakatiya kingdom in Deccan plateau ruled by Ganapathi Devudu (Krishnam Raju). People wished to have a baby boy to born to the king , but a girl baby was born. Ganapathi Devudu keeps this as secret and the girl baby (Rudhramadevi) and raised as male (Rudhramadeva) child to safeguard the Kakatiya Kingdom rule as its successor and at one point of time she even gets to marry another girl Mukthambaa (Nitya Menon). THis secret is kept for 25 years and Madanika (Hamsa Nandini) reveals the identity
Robinhood of the kingdom Gonaganna Reddy (Allu Arjun) has some rivalry with Kakatiya. And the rivals of Kakatiya dynasty Nidadavolu Prince Maha Deva (Vikramjeet Virk)and their cousins Hari Hara Devudu (Suman), Murari Devudu (Adithya Menon) takes advantage of the situations and makes a sudden invade on Kakatiya kingdom. Now the Transformation of Rudra Devudu to Rudrama Devi and how she safeguards their kingdom and How Gona Ganna Reddy and Chalukya Veera Bhadra (Rana), her love interest , joins her to save the Kakatiya Dynasty… forms the story.
Anushka as Rudhramadevi is simply amazing , she is Royal , beautiful, powerful and majestic. She shows variations between Rudhramadeva (male) and Rudhramadevi(female).
Allu Arjun as Gona Ganna Reddy is the saving grace for the film, he excelled in steeling the show with his powerful dialogues his diction, his looks, his performance. Without him , the film wouldn’t be interesting or gripping.
Rana as Chalukya Veerabhadra has done a decent job , Nithya Menon as princess had a limited role. Prakash Raj is perfect as Rudrama Devi’s guru Shiva Devaiah, justified for his role. Krishnam Raju ,Suman, Aditya Menon, Baba Sehgal are good in their roles.
Rudramadevi has high production values not as off a Hollywood movie. Ilayaraja’s music is pleasant but the songs are not catchy, the BGM was excellent ,which has elevated the scenes. Cinematography lacks dimensions, it could not capture the grandness and give a wow feel.
VFX works are ordinary but compared to other recent releases, it is good . The movie was delayed for VFX but the quality is not up to the standard. Their are some blur scenes and the Anushka fight with Elephant looks artificial .Costumes are the major highlights of this film, thanks to the team for their research in designing the costumes matching the time period. Hat Off to Art work by Thota Tharani which is grand , eye catching and lavish. editing need some chopping. Battle scenes like Snake formations of army and then Eagle formation are eye catchy. Screenplay again fails as the film drops and pickups all through the film.
Rudhramadevi is not just a film, but a film based on Kakatiya dynasty . The director Gunashekar made this film with 11 years research . This is not a story of the fairy tale Queen to take cinematic liberties to make the film interesting with twists in commercial pattern . Since its the history which was recorded in History books, Gunashekar has to certainly stick to those recording and showcase the film in interesting way which is not a easy task. Gunasekhar has put in lots of effort and money on Rudramadevi and made a sincere efforts to make this film as said in history books.
The first half of the film goes in introducing of teh character and establishing them . The transformation of Rudharmadeva to Rudhramadevi as queen takes time. The second part lacks clarity and climax is a lead down. Gunashekar is an expert in handling such big projects but could not handle this project to make it a Masterpiece . There are scenes where Rudhramadevi dances ..Hard to digest. Director with poor narration skills made the film boring.
The plus points of the film are performances of Allu Arjun and Anushka. The minus points are unecessay scenes, songs and Screenplay. Both content and technology were not rightly mixed to give a vibrant output , it has lot of boring moments, slow pace which could test the patience. Overall Rudhramadevi is a story about a determined women who went through all kind of struggles to save her people , culture and Telugu race however it does not give a feel of Magus Opus.
Rudhramadevi fails to create Historic Impact
