Rape victims narrate tale of woe

The Port City police today launched a manhunt to nab two members of a gang accused in a case of rape of two girls after a case was registered with the Pendurty police Station here late last night. The two girls are undergoing medical treatment in the Government King George hospital (KGH). Several women organisations have condemned the incident and expressed solidarity with the girls. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ‘Mahila Wing’ President A Vani, along with party cadre, visited the hospital. The girls narrated to the leaders how they were exploited by the kingpin of the gang, Srikanth, and his friends. The girls urged the leaders not inform their parents. Later, Ms Vani and other leaders met the City Police Commissioner J Purnachandra Rao. The Commissioner informed them that the prime suspect Srikanth used to invite women to his residence on the pretext of holding parties. Srikkanth’s wife was also part of the gang. The two girls had been employees in a internet centre run by Srikkanth. The Women Organizations alleged that Andhra Pradesh Home Minister was a woman. But there was no safety for the fair sex in the state. Ms Vani also charged that after Sabitha had taken over as home minister, acid attacks and other crimes had increased in the state. The Computer Training Institute and Internet Centre Owner Srikanth, his wife Ratnam and three others are already in police custody. Three teams are searching for the other two accused. Police visited Srikanth’s house at Papayyarajupalem village. The two girls alleged that they were gang raped there.
