Protest at police ‘harassment’ in divorce case

The summoning of three women in a divorce case and allegedly detaining them in Peddapuram Police Station and harassing them for over 48 hours in the guise of interrogation sparked strong protests from their family members and relatives today.

The agitated members demanded the immediate release of the women and blamed the police for harassment allegedly at the instance of a Minister.

However, the police have denied the charge and maintained the women were brought to the police station only in the morning and were not in illegal confinement in the police station last night. Police sources told UNI Kunche Manjula (32), Kunche Sanjana (12), her daughter and G Satya (48), Manjula’s elder sister were asked to appear before the Circle Inspector Peddapuram at the police station for questioning in connection with the complaint lodged by Manjula’s husband Thathaji (38), a native of Surampalem.
