Police lobs tear gas following tension in OU

Tension prevailed in the Osmania University (OU) this evening following a clash between two groups of student organisations forcing Police lobbying Tear Gas shells in the Campus and also at the OU gates leading to Tarnaka and Vidynagar areas.

In the meele, a group of students set afire a car related a the electronic media channel which and threw stones on two other vehicles, including the media, damaging the windscreens in protest against lobbying the tear gas by the police. Police said the trouble started when one student organisation residing in OU hostel allegedly organised beef festival and took out a rally in the campus which was objected by another student organisation related the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyardhi Parishad (ABVP). Later the students hurled stones on one another forcing the heavy police contingent present there lobbying tear gas shells to disperse them. The street lights in the OU Camps were also damaged due to raining of stones. The situation in the OU at present was tense but under control. The students belonging to ABVP objected to organising the beef festival by the student organisation as it was against the Hindu community. Heavy police force was manning the campus and all routes leading to OU were sealed, police added.
