Gabbar Singh, the remake of Hindi blockbuster Dabangg, was not only one of the biggest grossers in the history of Tollywood, but also waltzed Pawan Kalyan to the top. Now, with Dabangg 2’s stupendous success, the Power Star is keen on acquiring the remake rights of the Arbazz Khan-directed sequel.
Interestingly, producer Bandla Ganesh, who produced Gabbar Singh, has already registered the title, Gabbar Singh in Hyderabad. But we are not sure how quickly would Bandla Ganesh approach Salman Khan for the remake rights.
At present, Pawan Kalyan is busy shooting director Trivikram’s untitled project. Sources close to the actor say the super star has not signed any project after that. It is not clear whether Pawan Kalyan would commence shooting for the sequel in Telugu shortly or would take more time.
“It is too early to say when the sequel would go on the floors in Telugu. The script has to be prepared… A lot of pre-production work has to be done. More than that, we are yet to purchase the remake rights of Dabangg 2. We are hoping that things will fall into place shortly,” a source from the Bandla Ganesh.
It is not clear whether director Harish Shankar, who directed Gabbar Singh, will be retained for the sequel as well. At present, Harish Shankar is busy working on his next project – MLA – with another super star Jr NTR. If he has to take up the remake of Dabangg 2, then Harish Shankar can do so only after April 2013. But we are not sure whether Bandla Ganesh would wait until then. Will the remake eclipse the box-office collection set by Gabbar Singh? That is the question Tollywood is eagerly looking forward to.
