The Parkal byelection result has come as a wake-up call for Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which is hoping to save its face by launching a fresh round of agitation for a separate state.Party MLA K Taraka Ramarao says the party is ready to hit the road again with the separate statehood call if the UPA government continues to dilly-dally on the issue.
While the party is yet to formulate a strategy for the agitation, it has to factor in YSR Congress in the fast-changing political dynamics in the state.”It is clear that there is political realignment in Seemandhra and the YSR Congress is emerging a major force in that region,” Ramarao said. He, however, sought to emphasise that Jagan’s YSR Congress will have to make its stand on Telangana clear. The party leadership believes the bypoll results have thrown up a new challenge for the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. “The Congress has to grant Telangana for its own survival.
“There are no exams now and we plan to launch a fresh round of agitation shortly,” a party leader informs.KTR said that irrespective of dharnas and stirs, sensitizing the people on why Telangana is a given would go on.”We cannot waver on that front and will continue to reach every nook and corner of the region,” he says.”We have shown what we are capable of. KCR’s fast, the non-cooperation movement, the Million March and Sakala Janula Samme have all made a huge difference to the movement,” say sources quoting a party leader.
