Describing the ‘Maro Praja Prasthanam’ Padayatra to be undertaken by YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s daughter Sharmila as unique in many ways, the YSRCP today said it would be a protest march to highlight the failures of the Andhra Pradesh Government and its nexus with main opposition TDP. The 3,000 km Padayatra of Ms Sharmila will turn a new leaf in the polity of the state as no woman has so far ventured into such a programme and the opportunistic and nexus politics of Congress and TDP will be the focal point of the Padayatra, YSRCP leader and MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy told media here today. He said the Padayatra will begin on October 18 at Idupulapaya where a public meeting will be held and will go on uninterrupted for over six months, he said adding that the protest march will traverse through Kadapa, Ananthapur and Kurnool districts in the first phase. On the first day of the Padayatra Ms Sharmila will walk for 14.5 km in YSR Kadapa district, Mr Karunakar Reddy, who is a member of the coordinating committee along with Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and Putta Prathap, said. The state Government, which has been indifferent towards people’s issues, has been taxing them indiscriminately and has held back the welfare schemes of YSR, he alleged and said while farmers are a worried lot with the hike in input costs and lack of proper power supply, industries are being closed due to lack of power supply.
