Opposition parties holds dharna against bus fare hike
Several leaders, including of CPI and BJP were, arrested when they staged dharnas in front Bus Bhavan in the city demanding the state government immediately revoke the hike in RTC bus fares imposed following increase in diesel prices. Meanwhile, in a press conference, YSRCP MLA Srikanth Reddy, who demanded the State Government immediately revoke the hike in RTC fares, alleged that the government had already broken backbone of common man by affecting many hikes and the increase in RTC fares would put additional burden on common man and make their life miserable. Mr Reddy also ridiculed RTC Managing Director A K Khan’sstatement that the corporation would become profitable soon. He asked as to how the RTC could become a profitable organisation by taking such anti-people measures and slammed the RTC for fleecing the commuters by collecting additional fares during peak festival seasons.
He asked the RTC to scrap anti-people measures and adopt people-friendly steps. The party would intensify its agitation if the government failed to revoke such anti-people decisions, he warned.
