One more head ache for Kiran govt

A new head ache for CM Kiran Kumar Reddy with Andhra Pradesh High Court today directing the government to hold local body elections within three months and put a cap on reservations in at 50 per cent.

Delivering its order after disposing a petition challenging the appointment of special officers to local bodies, the court directed the government to immeidately start preparations for elections to MPTCs, ZPTCS and village panchayats.

The High Court did not agree with the view of the petitioner who said local body elections should not be allowed to be conducted with 60 per cent reservations as the Supreme Court had earlier imposed a limit of 50 per cent on all types of reservations.

The court has also directed the government to prepare a report ensuring that reservations would not exceed 50 per cent and submit the same to the election commission.
