Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has stoutly denied having met Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram to discuss the Telangana issue, as claimed by the latter in Parliament on Thursday.
In a statement, Mr. Naidu said there was no truth in Mr. Chidambaram’s contention that he had met him personally. Instead of finding a permanent solution to the Telangana problem, the Central government was adopting diversionary tactics through such statements which was condemnable, he added.
Meanwhile, TRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh said Mr. Chidambaram had revealed the secret behind delay in formation of Telangana by making it clear that the separate Statehood issue was not in his party’s agenda. The Union Home Minister had even gone to the extent of saying that the Centre was unable to take a decision over the issue as there were two views within the Congress complicating the issue further.
Going by Mr. Chidambaram’s statement Congressparty was in a dilemma. If Congress took a political decision in favour of Telangana, then there was no need for evolving consensus in Assembly or letters from political parties, he said.
