Actor Allu Sirish who is all set to make his acting debut soon with Gauravam thinks that stars are going to become less relevant in the years to come. The young actor thinks that movies are going to get bigger than the stars soon down South as well, ala Hollywood.
“Tom Cruise’s MI:3 took a $47mn opening. Rock of Ages was just $14mn. Tobey Maguire’s exit did not make any diff to Spiderman 4. The film is bigger than star in Hollywood today. Openings of Rowdy Rathore (Rs48cr) and Joker (15cr) indicate Bollywood’s heading that way. Franchisee films (Raaz, Murder, Dhoom) and hi-concept films (Vicky Donor, A Wednesday) are making stars less relevant. That’s not all. He thinks the trend will hit Tollywood soon. “Only Khans & South stars are immune to this. Point is, 4 how much longer? Stars will always be there but their crowd-pulling power might diminish. A star is as big as his openings. So, will our fan culture outlive this trend or will South India 2 have similar situation 7-10yrs from now?” posted Sirish on his twitter account.
