The Election Commission has made minor changes in the model code of conduct for the coming byelections, Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal said today.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) works will not be allowed to be implemented in the 12 districts where bypolls woulod be held. HE said except the districts going to polls, drought and drinking water works can be taken up and added due to drought conditions investment subsidy can be distributed to the farmers. However, the CEO clarified that taking up new projects, works and programmes will not be allowed at any cost and added the model code would be applicable to ministers and elected representatives throughout the state. ‘We have not given permission to continue the state government’s ‘Praja Patham’ Programme in the poll related districts,’ he said. The by-elections will be held for 18 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat on June 12.
