MIM, BJP demands probe into communal riots
MIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi today demanded the government to order a time-bound probe into the alleged desecration of a religious place that sparked the riots at Madannapet and Saidabad police limits in old city area yesterday. Talking to reporters, he appealed to the people to maintain peace in view of the communal riots in the Old City and termed the incident ‘unfortunate’ demanded the Government to order a probe into the communal violence. Claiming that the police department was not well-equipped to face such situations, Mr Owaisi alleged that there was not enough co-ordination among various units of the city police.
The riots should be seen in backdrop of the resurgence of right wing groups in the twin cities, he said. While the police were concentrating on few persons, these right wing groups were becoming hyper-active in the last two years, he said. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demanded the Government to order a probe into the violence besides taking action against those responsible for the riots.
Senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya demanded suspension of Malakpet Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Iqbal Siddiqi alleging that the attacks in some parts of old city took place in the presence of him (ACP).
