The Andhra Pradesh Government, in association with Bharti Airtel, a leading integrated telecommunications company, developed a ‘Mee Seva’ a unique citizen service that would allow customers to make electricity bill payments through their mobile phones. Andhra Pradesh Minister for Communication and Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah after launching the service, said Airtel has developed a new software in coordination with Infosys and in the first phase of this innovative project will be provided to Airtel customers only to enable the payment of electricity bills through mobile. Later, the system would be extended to other network services, the Minister added. Speaking on the occasion, Bharti Airtel (Andhra Pradesh) CEO Mr.Sharlin Thayil said that we are very glad to partner with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to enable citizens of the state to pay utility bills using mee seva on airtel money platform. Using the unique service, Airtel mobile customers need not stand in long queues or carry cash to pay their bills and they can now pay utility bills from anywhere in the country instantly by just dialing *400# on their phones and accessing the user friendly menu, he said. With the launch of the service, Airtel customers would be able to make electricity bill payments through cell phones and shortly 7-8 more utility services like water bill and property tax would also be included in the service net, he said.
