Veteran actor Manoj Kumar, best known for his patriotic films Purab Aur Paschim, Upkar and Kranti, will be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke award for his contribution to the Indian cinema.
Minister of Information and broadcasting stated that The Award consists of a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus), a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs and a shawl. Manoj Kumar is an Award-winning actor and director. He is remembered for his films Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Upkaar, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and Kranti. He is known for acting in and directing films with patriotic themes.
Manoj Kumar was born in July 1937, debut in films in 1957, His first lead role film Kaanch Ki Gudia in 1960. He featured in Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi, Himalaya Ki God Mein,Do Badan,Shaheed, based on the life of Bhagat Singh, Upkaar with popular slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kissan’and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan. In year 1992, he was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
