Andhra Pradesh-Odisha’s joint operation in Malkangiri in which 24 Maoists were killed , is not a pre-planned “surgical strike” , claims Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP), N Sambasiva Rao.
He said it was a joint operation of Andhra Pradesh-Odisha governments. Upon local information, the police have acted and surrounded the area. The Maoist might have gathered for a meeting. Despite warning to surrender, they gave a deaf ear and the police was forced to open fire on them.
DGP said, Police also recovered firearms, which included three AK 47s. Ramakrishna, the leader of Andhra-Odisha Border special zonal committee, is understood to have escaped.
DGP said the exchange of fire was still continuing and only after it ceases, would he know the exact number of deaths.
