Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya today claimed that the main contest in the Parakala Assembly Constituency where the bypoll will be held on June 12 will be between his party and the TRS. Addressing the press here, Mr Dattatreya appealed to the TRS to reconsider its decision to contest the elections and support the BJP’s candidate as both parties were on the same platform on fighting the separate Telangana state. He said the BJP has done ground-level work in the constituency which would ensure that its candidate win the by-elections with a comfortable majority. He claimed that TRS was afraid of BJP’s growing popularity in Telangana region. The BJP leader alleged that the TRS feared that it might lose its political identity in the region if it lost the by-elections in Parkal assembly constituency. He said it was the same fear that had been driving the TRS leaders to make baseless allegations against the BJP.
Appealing the voters in the Parkal constituency to exercise their franchise in favour of BJP, Mr Dattatreya said if the Congress party failed to announce Telangana by 2014, then the BJP would ensure formation of separate State immediately after assuming power at the Centre. Reacting on the transfer of B Prasad Rao from APSRTC Managing Director to ACB as the Director General, he alleged that the State Government’s move was aimed at diluting the probe into the liquor syndicate scam.
Asking the government to release a White Paper into the investigations into the liquor scam, he alleged that the government has been trying to target ACB DG Bhupati, who has done a commendable job in exposing the liquor syndicates across the State.
