J Jayalalithaa, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, is no more, she dies at the age of 68 after severe illness for past 75 days.
Jayalalithaa created record to be the four time Chief minister of Tamilnadu state . She was elected as CM for 11th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 19th Tamil Nadu Assemblies.
The actor-turned-politician was a follower of , Actor -turned -politician M. G. Ramachandran (MGR), who created an impact on Tamilnadu politics. she joined the AIADMK, which was founded by Ramachandran. After MGR’s death, she struggled for power and become CM for the first time in 1991. She lost power in 1996 and again become CM in 2001. As the third term, She became CM again in 2011 and 2015.
Jayalalithaa was born on 24 February 1948, at Melukote, in Pandavapura taluka, Mandya district, then in Mysore State (now Karnataka) to Jayaram and Vedavalli in a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family.
Jayalalithaa’s debut in Tamil cinema was the leading role in Vennira Aadai (1965). She made her debut in Telugu films as lead actress in Manushulu Mamathalu opposite Akkineni Nageshwara Rao. Her last Telugu release was also opposite Akkineni Nageswara Rao in the film Nayakudu Vinayakudu, which was released in 1980.
Jayalalithaa is popularly known as Amma. Despite numerous controversies surrounding her political career, Jayalalithaa has long enjoyed a cult-like following in the state, largely due to her populist and pro-poor schemes.
Jayalalithaa, who has been undergoing treatment since September 22 at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai, suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening . Despite sincere efforts of Doctors, She died at 11:30pm (IST) on Monday night.
