The rejection of Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II came as a setback for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which wanted redistribution of water among four states on basis of section 89 of AP reorganisation act.
The tribunal, headed by Justice Brijesh Kumar, made it clear that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, which allowed for the bifurcation of the state in 2014, is applicable only to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
On the other hand, Karnataka has welcomed the decision of the Tribunal. It’s CM said in a statement said, “We welcome the Tribunal’s decision to not relook at Krishna water sharing among all riparian states.This will protect Ktaka’s fair share. We urge Union Govt to issue a notification of final award of Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal II, allowing us to go ahead with our projects.”.
