Kaveri express derail in AP
Passengers travelling in the train number 16221 Mysore-Chennai Kaveri express had a miraculous escape when the engine and four of its coaches derailed at Malnuru Railway station in Kuppam Mandal of Andhra Pradesh, early today. There was no loss of life in the train accident. Railway sources said the accident occurred when the train engine hit a huge boulder which has fallen on the tracks due to landslides following heavy rains in Chittoordistrict for two days. The sources also said a few passengers received minor injuries and were shifted to Kuppam hospital. If the train had moved some distance after the accident it would have be a disaster as there was 50-foot-huge gorge near the accident spot, the sources added. Railway officials have taken up rescue operations and efforts were on to detach the derailed bogies from the rest of the train. The passengers, who were travelling in the rest of the unaffected coaches, will be sent to Chennai by Lalbagh express, the sources added. Train services were affected on the single line due to the accident. The Railway authorities allowed passing of several express trains on the another track in the Chennai-Bangalore route, the sources said.
