Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) Vice-Chancellor Prof G Tulasi Ram Das today said that proposals were submitted to the UGC for a total grant of Rs 179 crore for the twelfth five year plan period.
Addressing a press conference here, he said soon a delegation from the university would leave for New Delhi to press for the grant by giving a power point presentation. The funds would be utilized for construction of buildings, laboratories and purchase of laboratory equipment, he said, adding block grant proposals to the tune of Rs 16 crore for the current financial year were submitted to state government for approval. The Union Ministry of food processing industries wing has sanctioned Rs 1.1 crore for establishing a Food testing laboratory at the JNTUK premises besides Rs 45 lakh for construction of building. The University on its part has to provide Rs 1.39 crore towards the matching for this’ he added.
On the new courses proposed, he said the JNTUK has signed an MOU with CIHL (consortium of Institutes of higher learning ) for MS programme in Information technology, a two years course from the academic year 2012-13 in the University college of engineering Kakinada, which is first of its kind.
Two more new PG programmes- M.Tech (power electronics and drives) in EEE at the university college of engineering and also MTech in Nano technology, he added. Rector K Satyaprasad, Registrar EV Prasad and other JNTUK directors were present.
