TDP on Friday demanded DGP (Prisons) to clarify whether the government had permitted YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to use cell phones in Chanchalguda Prison where Reddy was languishing on the charges of possessing disproportionate assets.

TDP politburo member Y Ramakrishnudu wrote a letter to Director General of Police (Prisons) on allowing Jagan to use cell phones in jail. He questioned under what authority Jagan had been permitted to use cell phones and whether there was any special provisions under law to extend such facilities beyond the facilities that are normally extended to under trial prisoners.

It was romoured that the cell phones of jail officials were being used by Jagan. “Is it not the responsibility of the head of the department to cross-check the information and verify the calls from the cell tower concerned?” he questioned.

He said he had got reliable reports that the Jagan had been using cell phones from the jail and managing his party affairs. It was also reported that a large number of political functionaries were permitted inside the jail in the name of ‘mulakat’.
