YSR Congress party chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy Wednesday began an indefinite fast in Guntur to mount pressure on the Centre and the state governments to accord special status to Andhra Pradesh as mentioned in the state reorganisation bill while bifurcation of the state. to form a separate Telangana state. He said both Telugu Desam Party and Bharatiya Janata Party have forgotten their promises made to the people of Andhra Pradesh, before state bifurcation as well as during elections.
Jagan sat on fast at Nallapadu in Guntur, Several party leaders and activists are also sitting on fast with him since 10.30 am.The police have made elaborate security arrangements for the Deeksha. Ridiculing the state’s assurance that the Centre would grant special ‘packages’ to Andhra instead of the status , Jagan attacked the AP CM Chandrababu Naidu over special status. He criticized the ruling TDP party for failing to build pressure on the Centre and going back on its promise of achieving special category to the state.
He said, Naidu was caught red handedly on audio tapes in cash for vote case , he alleged that Naidu earned money through bribes in the state , with land scam, sand scam and other projects scam and the corrupt money was invested in buying Telangana MLAs. And to come out of the case, Naidu compromised special status issue with the center.
He said, The 14th Finance Commission amending constitution does not apply to SCS to AP as the bifurcation bill was passed by the parliament and its a executive decision, need no amendments. He said, If the state gets Special status , the state would get 90% as grants and 10% as loans, there is no need to repay these 90% grants . SCS accorded state will get 100% excise duty benefits, IT benefits, flight benefits to the industries. There is no need for people to look around jobs, the state would see all ” Wanted” boards not “No vacancy” boards.
He said, Naidu made all false promises like Jobs to youth, 2000 bugs stipend for jobless youth ,and other promise but none of the promise has been fulfilled by Naidu, said Jagan.
