Ilayaraja turns 69 yrs old still his music sounds fresh

It was a befitting birthday celebration for Ilayaraja on Saturday, in a year touted to mark his big comeback. An official teaser launch on TV sets of his next film, the launch of a long-pending website and a cake cutting with family were held on Saturday as the musician turned 69.

Earlier this year, when Prakash Raj’s ‘Dhoni’ hit the screens, it was obvious the maestro’s music had not lost its sheen, as songs of the movie, composed by Raja, topped the charts. Ever since, expectations have been high about the soundtrack of ‘Neethane En Ponvasantham’, the movie that marks the coming together of Ilayaraja and filmmaker Gautham Menon.

A short teaser of the movie showing the maestro in action was played on TV channels on his birthday, for the first time. Though the musician is not known to celebrate his birthday in a grand manner, his kids Bhavatharini, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja organised a cake cutting in the presence of other film celebrities.

The official website of Raja was launched on the occasion.
