A youngster from Hyderabad was killed while his cousin sustained critical wounds in a road accident at Durban in South Africa while heading to the airport for return journey, their family members said here said on Wednesday.
The victim, Vorla Sai Ram Reddy, 20, of Sainikpuri, flew to South Africa along with his family to attend the marriage of a close relative a few days ago. He and his cousin, Sandeep, also from Sainikpuri, were going to the airport in a car driven by their family friend, Darshan, when the accident occurred on July 19.
Sai Ram Reddy succumbed to his injuries four days ago while being treated, while Sandeep was declared out of danger. Sai Ram Reddy is a second year B.Tech. student of CVSR Engineering College at Ghatkesar.
While other family members travelled to the airport in a bus Sai Ram and Sandeep were on their way to the airport in a car. “The car overturned five kilometres ahead of the airport. Four of us stayed back at Durban to attend on the two youngsters while others flew back to Hyderabad,” the victim’s uncle, Madan Mohan Reddy, said. Sai Ram’s father, V. Srinivas Reddy, who owns two function halls on city outskirts, too was in Durban when the accident occurred.
On the suggestion of other family members, he returned to the city. “Though the student died four days ago, we preferred not to break the sad news to his father immediately since we were not sure when the body could be brought here,” the victim’s uncle said yesterday.
The body has arrived today morning at hyderabad and was taken to the boys house in sainikpuri. A large number of crowd gathered ,while his friends were in deep sorrow.
