Hyderabad occupied second place in IT performance in the country after Bangalore. The total IT turnover of the State for the year 2011-2012 was Rs 53,246 crore, out of which exports contributed Rs 40,646 crore, while domestic consumption was Rs 12,600 crore, State IT Secretary Mr Sanjay Jaju claimed in a release here today.
IT contributed to 39 per cent of total exports from Andhra Pradesh and the employment generated in IT sector in 2011-12 was about 3.2 lakh, he said. Andhra Pradesh has 56 IT SEZs, out of 353 approved IT SEZs in the country. While referring to the new IT initiatives in the state, he said four incubation towers were under construction, one each at Warangal, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Tirupati. This was going to generate direct and indirect employment for one lakh persons, he said. Andhra Pradesh was the first state in the country to make the Electronic Hardware Industry Policy 2012-2017 for encouraging the growth of the sector, he said.
