The Hyderabad city registered 16776 cases in 2012 against 14,189 case last year while crime rate slightly increased to 16770 against 16112 last year despite effective policiing with the available force in the state capital.
In a press conference, Hyderabad City police Commissioner Mr Anurag Sharma, who released the annual roundup information of the city, today claimed expecially important offences like murder for gain, murder, House breaking, theft, kidnapping, cyber crime are on decreasing trend while other offences including rape, dacoity,robbery are slightly increased.
All these are achieved despite various constraint slike huger number of vacancies of officers and men and insufficient mobile power, the commissioner said in the the recent times, everal gangs of property offenders were arrested and recovered crores worth of gold, silve and cash. In the recent Telangana March held in September 30, this year,he said over one lakh people had participated in the march which was called by TJAC Chairman Prof Kodandaram wherein the cadres had indulged in large scale violence including arson and stone pelting resulting into damage of public and private properties including police vehciles. In these incident, 41 cases were registered and has been entrusted to SIT for investigation.
The Commissioner said in the city had experienced communal riot like situation in the limits of Madannapet and Saidabad area in the month of April and thereafter in the limits of Musheerbad, Kulsumpura and South Zone in the month of October and November during the festivals and in the background of Bhagya laxmi Temple dispute. In the communal riot incidents, 121 cases were gistered at different police stations and the cases are transferred to Special Investigation Team (SIT) and 146 people have been arrested in these cases, the Commissioner informed. The cyber crime rate was decreased in the city against previous years and also crime against women while the number of rape cases increased to 68 from 54 in 2011.
There are approximately 2800 vacancies of all ranks in hyderabad city police and every month 20-30 police personnel retire, the commissioner said a recuitmen drive will be taken up next year and likely to fill up larscale force to meet the challenges in the city. The vacances at the level of 279 SIs are very crucial since this adversely impacts field level policing, he expressed and said though the recruitment to till up the posts of constable was carried out in 2012 but only 379 candidates could qualify after undergoing written exam , however, the negative marks system will be removing in the next exams. While referring to lroad accidents, the Commissioner said that most of victims died in the accident are two-wheelers and nearly 44 per cent of accidents involved by two-wheelers in the city, he said. To make the police station friendly, a separate reception centre was constructed on a trail base in Banjara hills police station and the same will be extended to other police stations shortly, the commissioner added.
