Harikrishna stages dharna in Vijayawada
Demanding a rollback of the recent hike in power tariff, the TDP embarked on agitation in front of the sub-stations in the Krishna district on Wednesday.
TDP leader and Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Harikrishna participated in sit-in protest in front of the sub-station at Tiruvuru, while other leaders participated in the agitations organised across the district. Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and former MLA Swamydas participated in the dharna in Tiruvuru.
TDP State general secretary Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and others staged a sit-in protest in front of the sub-station in Gandhi Nagar here. On the occasion, the TDP leaders came down heavily on the State Government for hiking the power tariff abnormally.
Slamming the government for increasing the tariff without providing proper supply of electricity to consumers, they accused the Congress party of making tall claims during the elections that it would supply seven hours of power to the farmers.
The Congress Government had gone back on its pre-election promise of not increasing power tariff by passing on a huge burden of Rs.9,000 crore on the common man. During the last eight years the Congress government had merely added 1700 MW as against 10,000 MW by the TDP government. The people were being made to pay a heavy price for the government’s neglect of the power sector, they said.
