Hanumanthappa dies after battling with death

lance-naik-hanumanthappa-2Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, who was rescued alive after being buried under snow for six days in the Siachen glacier at -50 degrees, died on Thursday.

He took last breathe at Army Hospital (Research and Referral) after battling for live for last two days. He hails from Betadur village in Dharwad district, Karnataka.

He was found from under 35 feet of snow at  avalanche army post in the Siachen glacier in Jammu and Kashmir . With the massive snow falls he was buried under snow along with nine others.

Surprisingly Hanumanthappa was alive when he was rescued under -50 degrees .Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and the army chief, General Dalbir Singh.

Modi tweeted: “He leaves us sad & devastated. RIP Lance Naik Hanumanthappa. The soldier in you remains immortal. Proud that martyrs like you served India.”

Parrikar said: “The nation salutes him.”

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has expressed deep shock and profound grief at the demise of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday paid homage to Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad.
