To meet demand for sand in rhe state, the Andhra Pradesh government was planning to promote manufacture of artificial sand. Addressing a press conference after holding a meeting with the owners of stone crushing units here, Mines and Geology Minister Galla Aruna Kumari today said supply of sand in the state was 1.70 crore cubic mtres vos-a-vis the demand of about two crore cubic metres. To bridge the gap, the minister said, the government was contemplating to promote manufacturing and usage of artificial sand and it can be produced by the robotic units and by filtering of regular sand. The demand for sand would continue to rise , she said addomg the government would launch a campaign to promote the alternates.
She said it would cost around Rs 3 crore to set up a robotic unit and the government would also take measures to get environmental clearances for sand mining in the state.
