Govt inspection of engineering colleges
Even as the controversy over the cap on free reimbursement for engineering and professional colleges continued, Andhra Pradesh government is contemplating to formulate teams at district level and regional level for inspection of private engineering and other professional colleges.
In order to ensure quality education, the teams will inspect the colleges on whether that they are functioning as per the All -India Counicl for Technical Education( AICTE) norms or not, sources said. The committees at the state level will be supervised and directed by a high level committee consisting of Senior IAS Officer S K Sinha, Senior IPAS officer Umesh Sharaf, Secretary AP Council of High Education and Commissioner Technical Education, the sources added. It may be noted that the government armed itself with ammo against Engineering Colleges by issuing two ordinances earlier, amending the AP Educational Institutions Act 1982 and the AP Technological Universities Act 2008. The ordinance would allow the government to conduct surprise inspections of facilities in the colleges, many of which are widely known to be deficient. Governor ESL Narasimhan also promulgated two ordinances.
