Cancellation of old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fetched huge income to the GHMC in the form of taxes.
While the civic body collected a whopping Rs 35 crore. Its Zonal commissioner Ravikiran has said that so far Rs 35 cr taxes were collected within GHMC limits so far after the ban of big notes.
Special public service counters were opened in 24 circles and these public service centers would be kept opened up to midnight, he said.
While the Water Board got about Rs 9 crore through special counters opened for collecting tax arrears. People were seen standing in long queues at these centers to pay taxes.
Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao made an appeal during his Delhi trip.
