Former Punjab DGP KPS Gill passed away at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi,after sudden cardiac arrest due to cardiac arrhythmia .
He was known for rooting out Sikh militancy Khalistani terrorists from Punjab. He received Padma Shri in 1989 for his contribution in the civil service. He was 82. He also served as the president of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).
Gill was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after he was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure and significant Ischemic Heart Disease. Gill had been recovering from peritonitis but died of a sudden cardiac arrest caused by cardiac arrhythmia.
“KPS Gill will be remembered for his service to our nation in the fields of policing and security. Pained by his demise. My condolences,” PM Modi tweeted.
