Curfew relaxed, situation peaceful
The indefinite curfew clamped in Madannapet and Saidabad Police Station Areas following communal violence on Sunday was relaxed for eight hours from 0900 hrs this morning to enable people to purchase essential commodities and attend their daily work. Police sources said the situation during the curfew relaxation period was by and large peaceful. The curfew would be reimposed again from 1700 hrs in evening. If the situation was peaceful and remained incident-free, the curfew was likely to be lifted completely in the next couple of days, the sources added. People in Saidabad and Madannapet thronged vegetable markets and grocery stores to buy essentials even as police continued patrolling to keep trouble makers away. Sixteen people, who were involved in the communal clashes, had been arrested so far by the police. Section 144 of CrPC was continuing in the city since the curfew was imposed. The communal clashes broke out on April eight due after animal carcass was thrown in a place of worship.
