In an interesting turn in the sensational liquor scam, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu, several ministers, officials and even media houses who had highlighted the issue, as respondents.
In response to two petitions demanding CBI probe into the liquor scam, the High Court has issued these notices.
The petitioners had contended that though it was reported to be a major scam involving Rs. 13,000 cr, no raids were conducted in the Chief Minister’s native district of Chittoor and the PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana’s native district of Vizianagaram. The petitioners have also alleged that though the involvement of 71 MLAs was mentioned in the ACB’s first report to the Chief Minister, several names were deleted later.
Posting the petition for further hearing to three weeks later, the High Court has issued notices to the Chief Minister, TDP chief, ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, MLA P Sankar Rao, Chief Secretary, Excise Department Principal Secretary, Home Department Principal Secretary, Excise Commissioner, Director General ACB, DGP, CBI Director New Delhi, CBI JD Hyderabad, Union Home Ministry, Andhra Jyothi, Times of India, Sakshi, NTV and Vaarta.
The court has however said that there was no need to direct the CBI to take over investigation at this stage, as the ACB was doing its job well.
