Congress Rajya Sabha member Chiranjeevi has expressed his profound sorrow over the loss of lives in the stampede at Kotagummam Pushkar Ghat in Rajahmundry on the first of of 12-day Godavari Maha Pushkarm in Andhra Pradesh.
Chiranjeevi met the injured in Rajahmundry Government Hospital along with C.Ramachandraiah and other leaders. Chiranjeevi patiently listened to their grievances and enquired about their health and family . Families of victims complained that the government has failed to provide vehicles to take back the dead bodies. While Chiranjeevi personally arranging vehicles for the families of people who died to take back the bodies to their native places.
Later speaking to Press, He demanded that AP Government pay an ex-gratia of Rs. 25 lakh to the kin of each deceased. He demanded a high-level probe into the tragedy and stern action against those responsible for the incident. He earlier demanded that AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu should resign from his post owning moral responsibility but later said CM should at least tender a public apology for the incident.
