Chandrababu Naidu briefed the media in Amaravati after Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley stated that Special status cannot be given to AP.
He said ” Special category status is our right. The centre is not fulfilling the promises it made. We have been raising the matter since the day of the budget. But they (Central Government) did not respond. We have shown patience for 4 years. I tried to convince the centre by all means. As a courtesy & being a responsible senior politician, I tried reaching out to Prime Minister to inform about our decision. It is our responsibility to inform the PM that two of our ministers are resigning from the Union Cabinet, he was unavailable. The centre is not in a mood to listen. I don’t know what mistake I have done. Why are they speaking such things?.
For the people of Andhra Pradesh we decided to stay in this alliance, but now we have decided not to. We spoken about injustices to AP, we have huge revenue deficit. we wanted to have institutions and a new capital. Remarks of Jaitely suggested we were asking for so much money and even Defence funds. We became part of Union govt only hoping that justice will be done to AP.It is disheartening to know that no special status would be given to the state. State govt keeps in mind the interests of the people. The centre is showing apathy to the AP. Every time, Centre said justice would be done but they were only assurance.
Heard Arun Jaitley’s comments that sentiments do not define the quantum of funds. We have come to a decision that two of our ministers should withdraw their position from Union Cabinet.I would like to see how BJP will react.Further course of action will be decided in the near time “, said Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu
