After successful interlinking of Godavari and Krishna rivers thru Pattiseema project ,The AP State government is focussing on linking the Godavari with the Penna to provide water to Rayalaseema districts.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held meeting with the officials of the Water Resources Ministry over project to divert Godavari water into Penna river. The project target is to provide water for drinking, irrigation and industries in Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool, Nellore and Prakasam districts .
For the Godavari-Penna interlinking, 7,000 acres of forest land and 25,000 acres of other lands are to be acquired at an estimated expense of Rs 80 thousand crores.
While the Centre plans to transfer surplus Godavari water to Cauvery as follows
Godavari -> (Via Polavaram) -> Krishna -> Penna -> Cauvery
If such a system is followed, the Upper state might ask for share in water flown into the Krishna river water .
