Telugu producer D.S. Rao seems to be a slow learner. He was recently in trouble after a mobile handset maker was upset with the title of his film – Mr Nookayya. Now, he has gone ahead and named his next film Chammak Challo, drawing Ra.One star Shah Rukh Khan’s attention.
It is learnt that Rao has received a notice from Red Chillies Entertainment over the use of Chammak Challo, which is a popular song from Ra.One. However, Rao rubbished the report. “We haven’t received any notice from Shah Rukh Khan or his team. These rumours are baseless. Also Chammak Challo means “nerajana” in Telugu, so no case of plagiarism there,” Rao said. He said the title was suggested by national award-winning director Neelakanta.
Just few weeks back, producer Ganesh had to allegedly shell out `25 lakh to the Sippys for a no-objection certificate for using Gabbar Singh as their film’s title. “Chammak Challo is a breezy romantic comedy and the director felt that this title would suit our rip-roaring entertainer,” he added. The film stars Gen-X stars Varun Sandesh, Sanchita Padukone and Catherine.
Producer D.S. Rao said he faced a few problems with Mr Nokia, which was later re-christened as Mr Nookayya, and doesn’t want to go through the same ordeal again. “Initially, the mobile brand didn’t object to it but later on a few middle-men drove a wedge between us. So, we had to alter the title but we didn’t pay any monetary compensation. I don’t want to take any chances this time. If somebody objects, I would rather go for an alternative title than cough up lakhs of rupees,” Rao said. On the other hand, Niloefur, a PR executive close Shah Rukh Khan, claimed that SRK and his firm would take a call once the star returns from his foreign trip.
