Protests over Telangana marred the Republic Day celebrations at the ruling Congress party office here today. Pradesh Congress Committee President Botcha Satyanarayana, who hoisted the national flag on the eve of 64th Republic day at Gandhi Bhavan, party’s office here, faced ‘Jai Telangana slogans’ of some party leaders from Telangana region who were upset with his opposition to a separate Telangana state. At one stage, Botcha’s speech was obstructed by Party vice-president Indrasena Reddy and asked him to know how he can participate in such a meeting at Rajahmundry while holding the post of party’s state president.
An argument ensued as Botsa defended his participation saying in a democracy system that everyone have a right to express their views. Even as other leaders tried to pacify Indrasena Reddy, some others raised ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans. It may be mentioned here Botsa yesterday had participated in a public meeting organised in Rajhamundry by its party MP U. Arun Kumar to mark 40 years of ‘Jai Andhra’ movement.
